The boat rental app helps you navigate

GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) – A lot of people love to spend time on the water, but don’t want the expense and upkeep of owning a boat. Now there is an app for it.

Get My Boat is a boat sharing service, much like AirBnb or Uber. Users can either post their own boats for hire or find a boat to hire by the hour.

Galveston’s boat rental company Caribbean Breeze is posting its fleet on the app, and the CEO says business has picked up now as the app is gaining momentum.

“We get get my boat bookings every week,” said Caribbean Breeze general manager John Wilson. “We have a fleet of around 14 people.”

The Caribbean Breeze offers everything from kayaks and pontoon party boats, fishing charters and jet skis. They’ll even take you parasailing, and these can all be booked at your fingertips through GetMyBoat.

Its location is only one of 3,300 in the world where users can get any type of boat they want any day. Each boat owner or boat rental company sets their own price, and the app’s GPS tracking services allow you to find the best deal closest to you.

If you’re not an experienced captain but still want to get out on the water, Get My Boat can organize your group with a guide. Or many boat owners offer instructional classes before you get on the boat.

“A lot of people want our fishing guides to take them out. This would include our own gear, bait, boat and fuel, as well as an experienced local captain,” Wilson said.

This eliminates the headaches and hassle of owning your own boat, for a fraction of the cost. The average boat owner only uses their boat 8 percent of the year, so this is one way to make sure you get what you pay for.

“Here it’s as short as a 2 hour boat rental for $ 160. You go and go, you’re done. There are no membership fees or upfront fees. With a reservation, you know this boat will be available, ”Wilson said.
