Lake Placid Business Owner Plans Boat Rental Service | News, Sports, Jobs

LAKE PLACID – The owner of a local real estate agency has applied for permission to operate a new boat rental business on Mirror Lake.

Peter Day, owner of Martha Day Realty, applied to the City-Village Joint Review Panel for approval to operate a boat rental business behind the storefront of Martha Day Realty on the north end of Main Street.

Day owns the property at 2411 Main Street, where the storefront is located, as well as the land behind it, which has an existing boathouse and dock on Mirror Lake.

Day told the Joint Review Panel at its meeting last Wednesday that he has no plans to build any new structures or lighting, but he does plan to install a new bathroom in the basement of his building for the clients of the boat rental company. .

The business – Downstairs Boat Rental – will be run by three children aged 12 to 17, he said. The company would offer to rent canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, rowboats and pedal boats, depending on the project request. The proposed opening hours are from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Day is also asking for permission to put up two signs for the boat rental business on the Martha Day Realty storefront. Both signs would be blue with white lettering with a view of the lake in the background, a design similar to the existing signs on the storefront.

The business would be located next to Mirror Lake Boat Rental.

A public hearing on Day’s project is scheduled for Wednesday, June 16 at 5:30 p.m. Those interested can do so virtually by visiting
