Do you like paddling? This boat show is made for you. – Twin towns

An array of canoes, kayaks, rowboats, boats, dinghies and other human-powered boats will be on display at Marine sur Sainte-Croix on Tuesday.

This canoe paddle made by Kevin Nyenhuis, the mayor of Marine in Sainte-Croix, is called “Ode to Lee”. Nyenhuis said he named him after Lee Dybvig, his mentor. It will be exhibited at a paddle boat show on July 13, 2021, at Burris Park in Marine sur Sainte-Croix. (Courtesy of Kevin Nyenhuis)

The first Paddle Crafts Boat Show will be held Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at Burris Park, 240 Judd St.

More than 30 boats will be on display, including a birch bark canoe belonging to polar explorer Ann Bancroft.

“With our local collection of legendary paddle boats, it’s pretty easy to host a boat show like this,” said Kevin Nyenhuis, one of the event organizers. Co-organizer Bill Simpson “has paddled more water than most and knows the stories and history of so many canoe builders and boat designs, so this was an event waiting to happen. The park will be a living history lesson in paddle craft.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will include a paddle-making demonstration, music and a spoken word program. Speakers include Natalie Warren, author of “Hudson Bay Bound: Two Women, One Dog, Two Thousand Miles to the Arctic.”

Participants are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch; a grill will be provided.
